What is Our Health Oregon?

We are a grassroots advocacy program that seeks to foster healthy Oregon communities by advocating on behalf of those who receive, work for, and care about health care in Oregon.

Who's involved?

Our Health Oregon is a grassroots advocacy program of the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems. Anyone who interacts with health care in their community has a story to tell and can become an advocate for better community health. Thousands of Oregonians have already added their names to our growing list of health care advocates.

Why was Our Health Oregon formed?

All Oregonians should have the opportunity to engage because health care extends beyond the hospital walls. It affects all of us. We believe it is important to provide a means for community members to engage their elected officials and share their experiences.

What are your goals?

Our Health Oregon seeks to raise awareness about the vital contributions of health care providers and health care systems and to provide timely and accurate information about issues affecting the health care system. Our Health Oregon will provide the public with a place to learn about issues affecting the health care system and will provide tools for advocates to become a vibrant and effective voice for Oregon’s health.

How does health care impact our economy?

During the last few years, health care employers in Oregon supported economies in every community across the state. Oregon hospitals employ approximately 57,500 people and make up 30 percent of the state’s largest employers. When accounting for hospital purchases of goods and services from other businesses, hospitals support one of every 10 jobs outside the hospital walls; this is about 160,000 jobs.

What resources do you provide?

We provide information and tools for health care advocates to effectively communicate with their legislators. Periodically we will issue action alert emails that identify a pressing issue and provide a means for constituents to send a personalized message directly to their elected official(s).
